FLUXOMICS

Fluxomics

Metabolite levels and metabolic flux provide different information. Fluxomics brings together tracing strategy, sampling design and data analysis to investigate pathway dynamics.

01

Isotope tracing

Isotope tracing is planned for the metabolic process and experimental model. Suitability of the ¹⁸O-based approaches described in our service scope is assessed for each application.

02

Targeted metabolic flux

Target pathways, sampling times and required measurements are defined from the research question. Concentration data alone are not interpreted as flux measurements.

03

Interpreting metabolic dynamics

Interpret data in the context of metabolic turnover and pathways, considering the tracing approach and computational scope.

PLAN YOUR STUDY

What will you provide and receive?

Research question

Compare isotope labelling and, where appropriate, plan model-based flux estimation.

Before sending samples

Share the tracer, medium, exposure duration, sampling times and experimental groups in advance.

Deliverables

Isotopologue tables, labelling plots and a method summary as agreed; modelling may be a separate work item.

Defining the scope

Labelling distributions are not direct flux rates. Data sufficiency and model requirements are evaluated for flux estimation.

EXAMPLE ANALYSIS OUTPUT

How is labelled carbon distributed?

An M+0–M+3 distribution for an example three-carbon metabolite illustrates isotope labelling under two conditions.

Possible outputs for your study

Isotopologue distribution · Labelling comparison · Flux modelling where in scope

How is labelled carbon distributed? Example chart created with synthetic data.
Illustrative data — not a client result. Fractions sum to 100% within each condition. Isotopologue distributions are not themselves metabolic flux rates; flux estimation requires appropriate experimental design and modelling.
